Im not sure if you have ever flown a hulk, but there is a pretty obvious problem here. My strip miners (mod strips with T2 crystals), spit out 1500 m3 ore every 3 min. If you are using a yield multiplier rather than refining multiplier, ever at x8 as i think you suggested as the maximum, then a single strip is going to be churning out 12,000m3 of ore each 3 min. Now i see two problems with this. First of all this is rather much bigger than the 8000m3 hold my hulk has at the moment, so each time it gets a hit, it will have to deactivate, and half the ore will be lost anyway = a pain. Secondly, assuming i get round this problem (two expander IIs just about sort this at the cost of lower yield), i am then producing 36,000m3 of ore every 3 min. Lest we forget, a jetcan is 27,500m3 and a new one can only be made every 3 min. Therefore the maximum yeild per min that i can achieve and keep all of it is just below 9200m3 (a multiplier of x6). This makes a max isk/hour of 12.9 mill compaired to the 67.3mill of the arkonor sitting next to it (using npc prices), i know what i would choose.
Simply put, a single ore type for each will not work how it is intended (although a good idea) due to other game mechanics that wont change. As much as you may disslike it, several different grades or ore are needed to achieve that you want here. Even with a mix of say, x2 mining yield and x3 refining yeild, that still requires a fair amount of macromanagement that most miners simply dont want to have to deal with.
On the issue of mineral compression, the current ideas for the rorqual mean that it can only compress in low sec, ie high sec has NO form of compressing with your nerf. This means that hauling trit in highsec becomes a pain and the value of the trit will drop. Mineral compression has been an accepted game mechanic for the last 2 even 3 years. Removing it would disrupt the game too much in my oppinion. I believe that the origional idea was to, rather than remove the need for 0.0 to import trit from highsec (and remove loads of opportunities for pirates in the process) but to make it possible for high sec to mine the highend minerals but at a much lower ish/hour rate so that it wasnt that worth while, but if they really wanted to it was there.
